Polyester Dyeing Modifiers

Jiangyin Huanan New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. provides polyester dyeing modifiers engineered for carrier-free and carrier-assisted dyeing processes. These auxiliaries include leveling agents, dispersants, migration inhibitors, and pH buffers that regulate dye uptake and migration in high-temperature exhaust and thermosol applications. The modifiers are formulated with anionic and non-ionic surfactants, aromatic esters, and polyether derivatives to control dyeing rate and final shade uniformity. They are suitable for disperse dyes on polyester yarns, fabrics, and microfiber substrates. Products are available with low oligomer deposition and reduced spotting tendency, supporting consistent reproducibility across dye lots.

Core advantages

  • Carrier systems based on methyl naphthalene and benzoate esters with low odor and good emulsion stability.
  • Leveling agents with controlled foam profile (Ross-Miles < 30 mm) and compatibility with disperse dye dispersions.
  • Migration inhibitors reduce side-center shade difference by improving dye transfer during thermofixation.
  • Formulations with low VOC and APEO content, meeting ZDHC and bluesign criteria.
  • Production capacity 60,000 t/year with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified manufacturing.

Product characteristics

  • Carriers: aromatic ester blends with solubility parameter 9.5–10.5 (cal/cm³)½, effective at 100–130 °C.
  • Leveling agents: non-ionic polyoxyethylene ethers with cloud point 65–75 °C, providing retarding and migrating action.
  • Dispersants: anionic naphthalene sulfonate condensates with dispersing power ≥ 90 % (relative to standard).
  • Migration promoters: solvent-free formulations that reduce polyester Tg to 65–70 °C during dyeing.
  • pH stabilizers: buffer systems maintaining pH 4.5–5.5 for optimal dye exhaustion.
  • Liquid forms with specific gravity 0.98–1.10 g/cm³ and viscosity < 200 cP at 25 °C.

Application scenarios

  • High-temperature exhaust dyeing (130 °C) for polyester knitted and woven fabrics in jet and package machines.
  • Thermosol dyeing (180–210 °C) for polyester/cotton blends, with migration control after padding.
  • Carrier dyeing for polyester microfiber and low-temperature dyeable variants (100–110 °C).
  • Repair dyeing to correct streaks and uneven shade using leveling and stripping modifiers.
  • Compatible with one-bath dyeing processes for polyester-cellulosic blends.

Frequently asked questions & solutions

What causes oligomer precipitation during high-temperature dyeing?

Oligomers form from low-molecular-weight polyester fractions, especially above 120 °C. Use dispersant additives with strong dispersing power (naphthalene sulfonate type) and maintain a cooling rate of 1–2 °C/min. Post-dyeing reduction clearing with caustic and hydrosulfite helps remove surface oligomers.

How to adjust carrier dosage for microfiber polyester?

Microfiber (denier < 1.0) requires higher carrier concentration: 1.5–2.5 g/L compared to 0.5–1.0 g/L for regular filament. Conduct pilot dyeing with incremental addition (0.5 g/L steps) to determine minimal effective level. Overuse may cause fibre swelling and handle change.

Why does migration vary between thermosol and exhaust processes?

In thermosol, migration occurs during drying and thermofixation; use migration inhibitors (polyacrylate or cellulose-based) in the pad liquor. In exhaust, migration is controlled by temperature ramp and leveling agents. Adjust ramp rate to 1.5–2.0 °C/min to balance dye strike and migration.

Can these modifiers be used with cationic dyes?

Polyester dyeing modifiers are designed for disperse dyes. For cationic dyeable polyester, use separate auxiliaries. However, anionic dispersants may precipitate with cationic dyes; avoid mixing in the same bath. Always test compatibility before production.

Handling & storage guidelines

  • Store in tightly closed containers at 5–35 °C, away from oxidizers and strong acids.
  • Agitate before use to homogenize settled components, especially for carrier emulsions.
  • Use with adequate ventilation; consult SDS for personal protection measures.
  • Shelf life: 12 months for leveling agents and dispersants; carriers 8–10 months under recommended conditions.
